I am sad to say, but I was only introduced to bush pies about 7 years ago, but ever since then they are my FAV thing to eat around the fire. Simple in design, “pie irons” allow you to make a toasted sandwich over a campfire by encapsulating the ingredients between two pieces of bread*. The variety of bush pie ingredients is only limited by the imagination, though we typically make some variation of a breakfast bush pie.
Breakfast Bush Pie
This is my go to breakfast when camping or sitting around the fire. Heck I even eat them for supper.
Here is what you need: (Per pie)
1) Fire & a Bush Pie maker! We got ya covered with two firepits, bush pie makers are by the garden fire pit.
Ham or whatever cooked meat you want
Whatever else you could imagine!
Spray the inside of the hob pie maker with cooking spray
Butter one side of each piece of bread
Place in the pie maker buttered side down
Whisk egg in a bowl and pour over bread
Top with toppings
Put other slice of bread on top
Close maker tightly
Cook over campfire 4-8 minutes turning frequently, finish cooking by placing on hot coals for 5-10 seconds on each side to get cheese melty!
